Tidalwire
The Client:
TidalWire Inc, was a leader in storage area networking (SAN)
interconnect sales, service and information, that helped more than
400 Fortune 1000 companies meet their network connectivity needs.
Tidalwire is now part of Network Engines, Inc.
The Content Engineering Challenge:
TidalWire wanted to develop a portal dedicated to the specialized
information needs of enterprise storage professionals. The new
portal would be the cornerstone of TidalWire’s entire marketing
strategy. Therefore, they needed a system that would integrate with
the appropriate enterprise systems including their CRM package and a
to-be-chosen content management system (CMS). TidalWire also wanted
the portal to be membership based allowing for personalization of
content, the collection of "rewards points", and detailed traffic
analysis. In addition, TidalWire had downstream plans to add
e-commerce and paid advertisements to the portal.
The challenge was formidable and TidalWire wisely opted for a
multi-phased approach. Foremost, they understood that they quickly
needed a system that would allow them to manage a large amount of
content with a small team of internal and external editors. More
importantly, they knew they needed to make the right technology
choices from the start, as these choices would significantly impact
their future portal enhancements.
Our Solution:
Pandora Systems re-architected Logan Airport’s real-time flight
information web application from the ground up to take advantage of
the latest technology and to distribute their substantial load
across multiple servers.
TidalWire called on Pandora Systems for technology guidance and to
rapidly engineer and implement their initial portal development.
Pandora architected a vertical portal that would integrate with the
client’s chosen CMS, their CRM, and their future e-commerce system.
Pandora first assisted TidalWire in choosing the right components
and infrastructure for their system, including advice on which
content management systems would meet their needs given their goals,
budget, and existing infrastructure. TidalWire ultimately selected
Ncompass's Resolution for its ease of use, workflow and its ability
to accommodate multiple authors. Pandora installed Resolution and
then integrated TidalWire’s existing content and site structure into
the system. Given Pandora’s intimate knowledge of the portal’s
architecture, TidalWire also looked to Pandora to assess third party
content services such as stock market data providers and ASP-based
discussion forums.
Pandora Systems is currently assisting TidalWire in all phases of
their portal development. Pandora offers technology advice and
technology transfer to allow the client fast time to market while
simultaneously preparing them to manage and/or extend their own
systems
Their Benefits:
- The new site, launched late Q4 2000, is already serving over
3000 unique visitors a week. This substantial industry specific
traffic will enable TidalWire to seek out paid sponsorships for
the portal.
- Tidalwire updates their content daily using their Resolution
content management system which Pandora installed and integrated
with their existing content and brought on line in mid Q1, 2001.
- Tidalwire anticipates gathering a wealth of relevant business
intelligence because of its increased site traffic through
membership and community based enhancements, which Pandora is
bringing online in early Q2, 2001.
- Tidalwire is now enjoying the peace of mind of a managed host solution. The selection
and transition to the ISP was facilitated by Pandora based on
their intimate knowledge of the site’s
complex infrastructure and their systems expertise.
